- INT. THE PIE HOLE - DAY
- EMERSON reads the paper across from NED as CHUCK slides in beside him.
- EMERSON
- That’s the fifth time.
- Emerson puts the paper down on the table.
- CHUCK
- Fifth time for what?
- NED
- Fifth murder victim found.
- Ned taps the headline, which reads "Fifth Murder Victim Found," over a photo of said victim.
- CHUCK
- (asking Ned)
- How many until you’re a serial killer?
- NED
- I’m not a serial killer.
- CHUCK
- You in the not-you sense.
- EMERSON
- You’re kind of a serial killer.
- NED
- I’m a serial lifer.
- EMERSON
- Followed one minute later by unlifing. A series of them, one might say.
- NED
- One might not say.
- CHUCK
- I for one.
- NED
- She for one.
- CHUCK
- I don’t say.
- EMERSON
- You don’t say? Seems to me you do a lot of saying. You know who else doesn’t say?
- Ned and Chuck look at other and back at Emerson. Shrug. Emerson taps the newspaper, on the picture of the fifth victim.
- EMERSON
- Number five. But I’ve got a hunch we can get him to say.
- EMERSON
