YET ANOTHER LIFE ON MARS SPIN-OFF!? BBC GOES BACK TO WELL A 3rd TIME

Life On Mars was great.

It's sequel series, Ashes to Ashes, which diminished some of the ambiguity that made Life On Mars so cool, was kinda pushing it, but entertaining.

Now this press release comes out of the BBC and Kudos today announcing yet another spin off while the first spin off is still in its first series.

This one isn't just pushing it, it's getting in a Range Rover and smashing clear through a shed wall and into the neighbor's yard. It's set in the 1997 and it's named for yet another David Bowie song from the era. Since Bowie's days of well known singles had passed, not so many people are going to recognize the title of Telling Lies as much of anything. "Telling Lies" being on Bowie's drum+bass album, Earthling.

Asked to comment on the differences we're likely to see between now and the nineties, producer Ashley Pharoah said "The mobiles were a bit larger then."

It's going to star Miranda Raison from Spooks (or MI-5 as we call it over here) and Philip Glenister is back as DCS Gene Hunt. Nice to see Gene climb the ranks.

Gah. Please. And where the model for Life On Mars was The Sweeney and Ashes to Ashes looks toward Dempsey & Makepeace, this new show will have yet another police show icon of it's appropriate era to look toward: Prime Suspect, a show that, in its day...which is-- hey, that show was on a recently as, like, a year ago.

I'm glad I live in the States and I'm not paying good TV licence money for this crap.
