COMICS! THE MAGAZINE #6
Check out issue six of Comics! The Magazine (out 8/5), wherein you'll find my piece on comics and graphic novels in museums and institutional exhibitions. While this is the Violence & Mayhem Issue, my article offers a sedate respite from the features on Matt Kindt's Fort Psycho and Geoff Darrow's Shaolin Cowboy.
The Inventing America: The Comics Revolution exhibit at the Skirball Cultural Center (here in Los Angeles) features heavily. I talk with it's curators, Patrick A. Reed (freelance comics culture guru and DJ) Michele Urton (Deputy Director of the Skirball) as well as Matt Saunders. He arguably ignited the modern era of widespread comics in institutional settings as a Director of the Comics and Cartoon Studies Minor at Oregon State University and curator of multiple Marvel-based exhibits at museums across the planet.
Comics! The Magazine is cheap ($2.99) and possibly even free at your local comics purveyors.
Also in the world of graphic storytelling, Type O Negative: Bloody Kisses is still available from Z2 Comics, Amazon, and your better comics retailers. It features my short story, "Set Me on Fire" with art by Gustavo Novaes.
Also included are stories by Lords of Acid vocalist Carla Harvey, Lacuna Coil frontwoman Cristina Scabbia and Fear Factory co-founder Burton C. Bell.
